AusBiotech Ltd., the national body representing Australian biotechnology and biopharmaceutical companies in Australia identified the need to establish a national interactive database and information service that focused on Australian based biotechnology and biopharmaceutical organisations. In partnership with the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing the Ausbioinfo information service was developed to assist current research and product development being performed within Australia to assist in collaborative, investment and industry incentive support.

 

BIF is a merit-based competitive grants program which aims to increase the rate of commercialisation of promising biotechnology developed in Australia. It provides financial assistance to companies to demonstrate proof-of-concept between the initial research stage of a biotechnology project and the early stage of its commercialisation. This program forms part of the $3 billion Innovation Statement, Backing Australia's Ability, that underscores the Government's commitment to innovation.

 

BioNet is a new initiative designed to service the needs of the Australian biotechnology community. It is a non-profit organisation, with no political, commercial or religious biases or alliances. BioNet is designed in the true spirit of the Web; it is open to everyone, from established companies looking to build industry partnerships, to the research group wanting to secure investment. The Australian biotechnology community drives the services and direction of BioNet, so all feedback and suggestions are welcome.

 

The NSW Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD) offers a Business Directory to provide further information on the NSW biotechnology industry. The BioBusiness component of the BioFirst Strategy will support the commercialisation of research outcomes and the growth of NSW companies in the global market.
